Product Description
Inline skating wheels from K2. This 72mm 80A wheels comes in an 8-pack with high quality ABEC-5 bearings, and nylon spacers. The 80a inline skate wheels from K2 are soft enough to allow for excellent grip and to create a smooth ride by being able to absorb bumps in your skating path. At 80A, they still provide durability as well.K2 72 mm Wheel (8-pack) / Abec 5 Nylon Spacer Review
I recently dropped a lot of weight and thought I'd get back into skating to keep it off. After I dug out my ancient rollerblades I saw that I'd done a good job of wearing off the edges of the wheels, and I wasn't sure how a 7 year hiatus would affect the bearings. After checking the wheel sizing these were a good general purpose replacement size for your garden variety adult rollerblades. The abec-5 bearings are better than the cheap ones in the cheap skates, but not as slick as the abec-9's, but I'm just an old guy skating on asphalt, so I dont really need anything too fancy!Break out the wheels, use the included pair of allen wrenches, one on each side of each wheel, to unscrew the nut from the bolt. Pull out the old wheel, orient the new wheel to suit you and reinsert the bolts and retighten with the wrenches. Tighten them snugly but if the wheel is being restricted (spin it as you tighten) then you've got them too tight. You'll feel a little tugging when you get close to the end of snugging them, like you're going over bumps. Keep going until you feel that. Check all four wheels for free spin and you're good to go. You can use a power screwdriver or other tool to remove the old wheels and bearings, but don't do that on the install as you may overtighten the wheel and damage the bearing.
These were also about the same hardness as my original 12 year old rollerblade wheels were, so they give about the same feel. Softer wheels give you a softer ride and turns, harder wheels give a hard ride but turn quicker and last longer. So soft wheels on wood floors/rinks, medium for recreational skating and hard wheels for street hockey players.
The mm size (72mm in this case) is the diameter of the wheel. You should look for something similar to what you're replacing, but look at the bracket holding the wheels, the spacing between the old wheels and how much space you have between the wheels and the sole of the boot. If you have room, you can go bigger. Bigger gives you more speed at a maneuverability cost. Small wheels give you great maneuverability, but aren't as fast. You'll also see a hardness scale, which for these is an '80a'. Thats pretty average. A 70a wheel is somewhat soft while a 99a is a very hard wheel.
Not sure how well these would work on a kids skate, but for a grownup looking for new wheels for an adult size rollerblade pair, these will almost certainly do.
