We have been building this board rack (our most popular) for over ten years. It is stronger than the ones that most surfboard shops sell, costs less, and is delivered FULLY ASSEMBLED, with all required mounting hardware (Hex head lag screws - not just wood screws). The base is poplar, nicely stained and FINISHED with gloss lacquer. The pegs are tubular STEEL, nineteen inches long, pressed into the base, spaced at eight inches on center, tilted up at ten degrees, and foam padded, with protective end caps. Surfdogz - 4 Surfboard, Steel Peg / Wood Base Wall Rack Set Review

I purchased two racks from Stu at Surfdogz, a custom 9 board vertical rack and the standard 3 board rack.

They are made with solid wood backing with metal tubes for the bars covered with pipe insulation. There are rubber end caps to protect your board from hitting the ends of metal rods.
Both racks I got have the pipe insulation also along the back of the rack covering the wood so nothing hard touches your surfboard.

The rack is solid and well made with predrilled holes in the wood for mounting. He provided mounting screws for drywall or studs.

I am extremely happy with the surfboard rack. It's as good or better than those in the surf shops. The only difference is that these racks don't have the bungee cords at the ends to hold the boards in place (that would give it 5 stars for me).

I bought some bungee balls and have those over the ends and they do the trick just fine.
